Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise is a national program which is delivered across an academic year, students make all the decisions about their company, from raising the initial share capital through to designing their product or service to selling directly to customers and ultimately winding up the company and paying their taxes. All this takes place with the support of a Business Adviser who brings a wealth of business knowledge and expertise to the team. Students can also choose to set up their business as a social enterprise, which focuses on addressing a social need rather than maximising profit.

Young Enterprise Company Report Winners!

Since September 2015, 13 Year 12 students have been working together to create a Young Enterprise business, Fortis.   The team took some time to decide on what the product should be and ended up with the ‘Little Box of Calm’. ‘The Little Box of Calm’ is a product that combines the best stress relieving products to try different techniques to help them overcome the most stressful of times. Items in the box were; a handmade colouring book with some mini colouring pencils, bubble wrap, bubbles, camomile tea, bath salts and a stress ball.

In early March, we submitted a Company Report to Young Enterprise to be entered for the Young Enterprise Bracknell Area Awards. The report detailed our finance accounts, the structure of the company along with details of our journey as a company.   The team worked effectively together to create the company report in a very short space of time. I’d like to say a massive well done to all the team with a mention for Lauren Baddeley as she pulled the team together and motivated everybody into getting what needed to be done, done. The whole team stepped up to the mark especially when the Managing Director and several others were away on a Geography field trip! We managed to get it done and sent off just in time and all we had to do was wait.

We received feedback from the judges a few weeks later and the majority of it was very positive so we were already feeling proud of what we had produced.   But, it came as a big surprise to us all to learn from our business advisors that Fortis had won the trophy for Best Company Report. Every member of the Fortis has learnt many things over the process and we look forward to continuing this until the end of the year and selling our boxes. We would also like to thank the teachers and business advisors who have supported and advised us throughout the year.
